How Many Hours Do You Really Need to Work to Become a Successful Health Coach

I think most health coaches are shocked when I tell them they can earn a full-time living working with just one client a day…

But, once I break down the numbers with them they realize that not only is this possible it’s very realistic to achieve.

That’s why on today’s Integrative #HealthCoachSuccess episode 384, I’d like to share with you various levels of hours needed per day (including prep, emails, and appointments) in order to be a successful health coach.

Enjoy the show and let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Show Highlights & Big Takeaways

1. Your Income Dictates Your Hours

The number of hours you need to work as a health coach depends on how many clients you want and how much you want to earn. A simple formula: each client requires about 1 hour of coaching + 0.5 hours of prep + 0.25 hours for follow-up weekly.

2. A 3-Hour Workday Can Be Enough

Many IHPs work from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, seeing one client per day, and earn around $75K/year. Client attraction time (0.5–1 hour/day) and minimal admin (0.5 hour/day) are built into that 3-hour block.

3. Scaling Up Doesn’t Mean Doubling Time

Adding a second or third client per day doesn’t double your workload—it adds roughly 0.5–1 extra hour. EquiLife coaches, for example, work 4–5 hours/day with clients and another 3–4 hours/day on back-end work. If you’re running your own business, you would maintain the same content creation and simply add 30-45 minutes per day for prep work and email per new appointment.
