“Summer is a season to thrive, not just survive. By staying hydrated, eating fresh foods, moving your body, protecting your skin, and cherishing time with loved ones, you can cultivate a summer full of health and happiness.”
Summer is a time of energy, sunshine, and connection. It’s also an excellent opportunity to prioritize your health and well-being. Whether you’re spending time outdoors or planning a relaxing staycation, these five summer wellness tips will help you make the most of the season.
Stay Hydrated
Hydration is key to feeling your best during the hot summer months. Water keeps your body cool, supports digestion, and helps maintain glowing skin. Aim to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water daily. Try making your own natural Gatorade:
- Glass of high-quality, filtered water
- Squeeze of organic lemon or lime
- Pinch of sea salt
Pro Tip: Carry a stainless, reusable water bottle with you everywhere to ensure consistent hydration.
Savor Seasonal Foods for Summer Wellness
Summer’s bounty offers a wide variety of fresh, nutrient-rich foods. Incorporate seasonal fruits like berries into your meals. Seasonal root veggies and leafy greens are excellent for steamed or baked dishes. These foods are hydrating, full of antioxidants, and perfect for boosting energy.
Pro Tip: Visit local farmers’ markets for the freshest seasonal organic produce.
Get Moving Outdoors
Staying active in summer doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym. Try outdoor activities like hiking, biking, swimming, or yoga in the park. Movement not only supports physical health but also improves mood and mental clarity. Mornings and evenings are cooler times to exercise outdoors.
Pro Tip: Wear natural, breathable fabrics like bamboo and use proper footwear to stay comfortable.
Protect Your Skin Naturally
Enjoying the sun mindfully is crucial for overall wellness. Overexposure to UV rays can lead to premature aging and other skin issues. Use natural sunscreens to shield your skin without harmful chemicals. For more information, tune into Episode 540 of The Cabral Concept.
Dr. Cabral’s Natural Homemade Sunscreen Recipe:
- ½ cup olive oil (herb-infused optional)
- ¼ cup coconut oil or cocoa butter (natural SPF 4)
- 2 tablespoons shea butter (natural SPF 4-5)
- ¼ cup beeswax
- Up to 1 tsp red raspberry seed oil (natural SPF 28-50)
- Up to 1 tsp carrot seed oil (natural SPF 38-40)
- 2 tablespoons zinc oxide (avoid inhaling)
Melt all ingredients except zinc oxide in a double boiler. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the zinc oxide. Let cool and store in a glass jar. Apply generously before heading outdoors.
If you don’t want to make your own natural sunscreen, we recommend looking into using mineral-based sunscreen.
Pro Tip: Reapply sunscreen every two hours for optimal protection.
Summer Wellness Means Strengthening Bonds with Loved Ones
Summer is the perfect season to reconnect with loved ones. Plan a picnic, host a barbecue, or simply spend quality time together. Social connections are vital for mental and emotional well-being. Laughing, sharing stories, and creating memories enrich your life in ways that go beyond physical health.
Pro Tip: Combine social time with outdoor activities for double the wellness benefits.
